About
Twenty years of teaching one person at a time.
Step by Step is a New Zealand-owned, NZQA-accredited private training establishment. We teach digital and workplace skills one to one – face to face through a nationwide trainer network, or remotely by Zoom.
Professional
As an NZQA-accredited private training establishment, our students work toward nationally recognised unit standards – not a certificate of attendance.
Effective
Over twenty years of delivery has produced an outcome-focused but genuinely flexible approach. We measure ourselves on whether the learner can now do the thing.
Personal
Scheduling bends to the learner. Sessions can be as short as two hours, at times that fit work, appointments and life.
Where we deliver
Trainers across most of New Zealand, plus remote delivery anywhere with a connection.
Northland · Auckland · Coromandel · Waikato · Bay of Plenty · East Coast · Central North Island · Taranaki · Manawātu · Wellington · Canterbury · Otago
Compliance and learner wellbeing
We complete a self-review against the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice. All education providers must support the wellbeing and safety of their learners, and our current self-review is published here.
The live site still shows the 2021 self-review – replace with the most recent one at launch, linked as a PDF.

We’re always looking for trainers.
Step by Step runs on a nationwide network of experienced computer and vocational trainers. If you’ve taught adults, know your software, and have the patience the job needs, we’d like to hear from you – particularly outside the main centres.
What we look for
- Experience teaching adults one to one
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications, Xero or workplace systems
- Comfort delivering both in person and over Zoom
- Reliability with reporting – referrers depend on it
